BURLINGTON, Vt. – The University of Vermont women’s hockey program announced the incoming class set to join the Catamounts for the 2024-25 season Friday. The incoming class consists of three first years and five transfers. Four of the incoming student-athletes are forwards, three are defenseman and one is a goaltender.
“We are very excited to welcome this large group to our UVM Hockey family in the fall,” said Head Coach Jim Plumer. “We have a great mix of youth and experience in this group and the one thing they all have in common is their excitement to be part of our program. I am grateful for the work that coaches Alex Gettens and Victoria Blake have done in putting this group together and I know they are going to mesh well on and off the ice with a motivated group of returning players.”

Part of the NAHA program over the last three seasons … in 2023-24 she had 27 goals, 26 assists and 53 points with the NAHA White team.
#15 Josie Hemp | RS-Fr. | Defense | Chanhassen, Minn. | Minnesota (WCHA)
Did not see game action in 2023-24 with the Golden Gophers … At Minnetonka High School in 2022-23 she tallied 39 points in 29 games and was named all-conference and an honorable mention to the all-state team.
#16 Mya Lawrence | Fr. | Forward | Calgary, Alberta | Shawinigan Lake School
Last season in the CSSHL U18 she posted 16 goals and 23 assists for 39 points … Shawinigan advanced to the Western Championships, falling in the title game … During the 2022-23 campaign she had 17 points in 30 games.
#20 Kyla Bent | Gr. | Defense | Halifax, Nova Scotia | New Hampshire (HEA)
Never missed a game over four seasons at UNH, playing in 128 contests … Posted six goals and 19 assists for 25 points in here career with the Wildcats … Last season she was sixth in Hockey East in blocked shots with 60 … In the 2024 Hockey East Quarterfinals she blocked a career-high five shots against Vermont.
#30 Jane Gervais | RS-Sr. | Goaltender | Valcourt, Quebec | Wisconsin (WCHA)
Started in 36 career games for the Badgers posting a record of 24-5-0 with a career 1.55 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage … Has eight career shutouts, including six last season … She was named the WCHA Goaltender of the Week twice in her career … Last season she was on the National Goalie of the Year Watch List … Member of the 2023 National Championship team with Wisconsin.
#44 Grace Nelles | Gr. | Forward | St. Anns, Ontario | Mercyhurst (AHA)
Played in 114 career games at Mercyhurst, posting 13 goals and 12 assists for 25 points … Lakers won at least 20 games in all of the full (non-COVID) seasons Nelles played … Played for Team Canada at the 2020 IIHF World Women’s U18 Championship.
#51 Oona Havana | Fr. | Defense | Turku, Finland | Kärpät (Naisten Liiga)
Over five seasons with Kärpät in the Naisten Liiga she’s posted 47 goals and 32 assists for 79 points … At the 2022 U18’s with Finland she scored in the Fins first-ever win over Canada at the U18 level … Finland won bronze at the event, and she was named one of Finland’s Top 3 Players on the Team … In 2023 she made her senior national team debut with Finland at the World Championships, playing in all seven contests.
#91 Ashley Kokavec | So. | Defense | Parkland, Fla. | Maine (HEA)
Skated in 31 games last season for the Black Bears posting five goals and six assists for 11 points … She notched the game-winner for Maine with her first career goal on Oct. 6 against Stonehill … She blocked 27 shots last season and was a +10 for Maine.
