Canada West has announced the 2024-25 men’s and women’s basketball regular season schedule, and the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades will kick off the season on Halloween night.
Both teams will play their first game against the UBC Thunderbirds in Abbotsford on October 31, followed by a road game against the Vikes in Victoria on November 2.
The schedule features alternating home and away games each week, with UFV playing at home for three of the first four games. The third and fourth games will see UFV hosting the UBC Okanagan Heat on November 8 and 9.
The season concludes with two home games against the Trinity Western University Spartans on February 14 and 15. The 12-week season includes 20 regular season games against 10 opponents, emphasizing more regional rivalries. UFV will also host the MacEwan Griffins from Edmonton on January 24 and 25.
The women’s team had a successful season last year, finishing 17-3 and earning a Canada West bronze medal. The men finished 8-12 and were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the playoffs.
Playoffs in 2024-25 will follow a multi-site format, with all games hosted by the higher seed. The top seven teams from the Prairie Division and the top five teams from the BC Division will advance to the playoffs. Single elimination play-in games will take place on February 21 and 22.
The U Sports men’s and women’s basketball championships will be hosted by UBC in 2025. The women’s event starts on March 13, with the men’s competition commencing on March 14. The national championship finals will be held on March 16.
