WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Head Coach Cait Wetmore of the Monmouth University Women’s Basketball team has remained active in the transfer portal announcing the signings of Dayshawna Carter, Rachel Kuhl, and Alexis Stewart.
The three guards bring the Hawks’ transfer total to four for the 2024-25 season after former NJCU star Damaris Rodriguez joined the team in late May.
Dayshawna Carter
Guard | Senior | Harlem, N.Y.
Cait Wetmore on Carter: “Dayshawna has displayed an ability to score the ball from anywhere on the court. Her experience at both Garden City and UMKC have readied her for the next step, and we are excited for that to be with us in West Long Branch.”
Carter transfers to West Long Branch after a season at University of Missouri-Kansas City following two years at Garden City Community College. In limited playing time for the Roos, Carter shot 39.6% from the field and put up a season-high 10 points versus Oral Roberts in early March. She shined at Garden City with five career 30-point performances across 62 appearances (36 starts). Carter flashed high-level potential as a scorer early on in her collegiate career as she willed her team to victory during a 37-point masterclass over Seward County in February 2022. She averaged a team-best 19.2 points per contest as a sophomore and made a 21% improvement from three-point range from her freshman season.
Rachel Kuhl
Guard | Graduate Student | Old Bridge, N.J.
Cait Wetmore on Kuhl: “Rachel is a New Jersey native with a lot of experience at the collegiate level. We are stoked for her to bring her talents here to Monmouth. Her ability to shoot the 3 and her work ethic make her a great fit.”
Kuhl made 49 starts and appeared in 109 games during her four-year stint at Saint Peter’s where she graduated this past May. She led the Peacocks in attempted three-point field goals in each of the past two seasons, with two-thirds of her made buckets coming beyond the arc for her career. As a junior in 2022-23, Kuhl finished third in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) shooting at a 39.4% clip from deep. The New Jersey native was second on the team in scoring with 9.5 points per game, eclipsing the 20-point mark twice that season. She set a career high with 25 points at Coppin State on 6-for-10 shooting from three. Kuhl’s second-best game came as a senior versus Manhattan where she knocked down five threes and went 7-for-7 from the foul line in a 24-point performance.
In addition to her contributions on the court, Kuhl was a three-time MAAC All-Academic Team honoree and earned a spot on the 2023-24 CSC Academic All-District Team.
Kuhl was a standout at Old Bridge high School where she finished her four-year varsity career as the program’s second all-time leading scorer with 1,655 points. She was featured as a member on the All-Division and All-Conference Teams three times apiece and even earned a McDonald’s All-American nomination following her senior campaign in 2019-20.
Alexis Stewart
Guard | Graduate Student | Hamilton, Ontario, Canada
Cait Wetmore on Stewart: “We are excited about the addition of Alexis to the Hawks program. She comes from a very successful high school and has experience at the next level. Her range from beyond the arc will be a valuable asset to the team.”
Stewart appeared in 72 career games over four seasons at the University of Akron, where she averaged 3.2 points per game. Considered a three-level scoring threat, she knocked down 46 career three-pointers and shot 30.6% from the field. As a junior in 2022-23, Stewart set career highs in games played, minutes, field goals made, points per game, rebounds, and assists. In a game versus Kent State on Feb. 1, 2023, she set a career high with 12 points on 4-for-6 shooting from the floor and 3-for-5 from three.
A May 2024 graduate with a bachelor’s degree in communication, Stewart was a two-time Academic All-MAC honoree and a 2023-24 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District nominee. She looks to complete a master’s degree in communication at Monmouth.
The Hamilton, Ontario, native was a four-year member of the St. Thomas More girls’ basketball team from 2016-2020. Stewart helped guide her squad to a combined 35-1 record and a pair of JUEL Prep Championship titles in 2016-17 and 2017-18. She averaged 16.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 3.0 steals per game in her senior season. No stranger to collecting individual and team accolades, she was selected as a Blue Star Elite team member in each of her four seasons, including Biosteel All-Canadian honors in 2020 after being named a JUEL Prep First Team All-Star and All-Defensive Team honoree in 2018.
