Kgothatso Montjane and Yui Kamiji teamed up to secure the top honors in tennis, winning the 2024 Wimbledon women’s doubles final with a 6-4 6-4 straight sets victory over Dutch pair Diede de Groot and Jiske Griffioen at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London, England on Sunday, 14 July 2024.
The duo displayed a brilliant performance in their 6-4 6-4 win over De Groot and Griffioen. The Dutch team initially had a slight advantage, but Montjane and Kamiji quickly took a 3-2 lead in the first set.
As the match progressed, Montjane and Kamiji increased their lead, leading to a 6-4 first set win despite a strong fightback from De Groot and Griffioen.
In the second set, Montjane and Kamiji initially fell behind but quickly regained a 4-2 lead. After a late push from De Groot and Griffioen, Montjane and Kamiji secured the win with a 6-4 set victory.
Montjane and Kamiji completed the campaign winning the title in just 1 hour and 33 minutes, without dropping a set. This victory was particularly sweet after being silver finalists in last year’s competition.
