JULIE-Anne Russell put in a inspirational display for the Republic of Ireland women’s soccer side in Pairc Ui Chaoimh where they defeated France 3-1.
Russell scored Republic of Ireland’s second goal in Cork. The Galway United attacker has scored two goals in the last two games and has made a remarkable return after a four year absence from the side.
After last night’s victory Eileen Glessson’s charges have put themselves in a great position to quality for the European Championships.
The Girls in green will face one of the following: Montenegro, Luxembourg, North Macedonia, Belarus, Slovenia, Romania, Albania, Greece in the play-off for the European Championships. Their victory in Pairc Ui Chaoimh means they will be a seeded team.
Julie-Anne Russell was part of the 2011 UL O’Connor Cup side.
During her time in UL, Russell played for the ladies footballers at corner forward along with playing Futsal for the Castletroy based college.
