ESPN has just announced the debut of “Futbol W,” a new weekly studio program centered on North American women’s soccer.
The show will be hosted by former U.S. women’s national team standout Ali Krieger and Sebastian Salazar, and will follow the same format as the network’s “Futbol Americas” show hosted by Salazar and former USMNT forward Herculez Gomez.
The premiere episode of “Futbol W” is set to air on July 23 at 9:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2 and ESPN+.
Subsequent episodes will be live-streamed on ESPN+ every Tuesday at 6 p.m. ET, with on-demand viewing available afterwards.
ESPN’s vice president of production, Manny de la Fe, expressed excitement about the launch of “Futbol W” in light of the growing interest in women’s sports in the U.S.
He stated, “‘Futbol W’ will provide news, entertainment, and a spotlight on the amazing athletes to sports enthusiasts. It will serve as our premier news and analysis studio program – a go-to source for fans seeking insights on women’s soccer.”
The show will focus primarily on the NWSL, the USWNT, Liga MX Femenil, and Concacaf stars competing in European leagues, according to ESPN.
In addition to on-field action, the hour-long program will delve into players’ lives beyond the game, covering topics such as culture, fashion, cuisine, and community involvement in the sport.
