STOCKTON, Calif. – The first signee of the Mary Beth Gunn era was announced Tuesday with the signing of Nahreen Cheam to the 2024-25 Pacific women’s tennis roster.
Cheam, from Elk Grove, California, spent a year at American River College where she guided the team to an undefeated 18-0 record and to the program’s second consecutive 3C2A State Championship. Cheam played No. 1 singles and won 6-0, 6-0 in the championship match against Ventura College.
“We are so excited to add Nahreen to the Pacific family. She encompasses what it is to be a student-athlete as she is a high-level tennis player who is equally as dedicated in the classroom,” said Gunn, who enters her first season at the helm. “Nahreen is a great addition to our program.”
Cheam was the 2023 CCCAA Women’s Individual State Championship and was ranked No. 1 in California in the Women’s Community College rankings. She posted a 14-2 singles record and 12-1 in doubles.
In addition to the state title, Cheam helped American River College with the Ojai Cup.
Cheam went to high school at Visions in Education and ranked seventh in her graduating class with a 4.5 grade point average. The was honored with the Valedictorian Medal, Seal of Biliteracy in Spanish and earned status as a California Scholarship Federation Sealbearer.
Cheam will arrive at Pacific as a sophomore and will be pursuing a degree in English.
