The Alabama softball team found itself in a tough position just one game into the 2024 Women’s College World Series.
UCLA, seeded No. 6 nationally, sealed the victory with a three-run home run from Jordan Woolery in the sixth inning to defeat the No. 14 seeded Crimson Tide 4-1 at Devon Park in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

The game, delayed by thunderstorms in Oklahoma City, eventually started 96 minutes after its original scheduled time, beginning at 12:36 p.m. CT.
Alabama’s pitcher Kayla Beaver held her ground against UCLA until the sixth inning, allowing only one earned run, striking out four, and walking one in the first 5 2/3 innings.
Kenleigh Cahalan evened the score for Alabama with a single to right field in the fifth inning before the UCLA’s powerful response.

Bailey Dowling’s strong performance, going 2 for 3, was not enough for Alabama, who managed six hits against UCLA’s pitchers Kaitlyn Terry and Taylor Tinsley.
