COLUMBUS, Ohio — The final piece of the 2024-25 schedule for the reigning women’s hockey national champion Ohio State Buckeyes was revealed on Wednesday.
Ohio State announced its nonconference slate, which includes an away series against St. Lawrence, a home-and-home pairing with Mercyhurst, and the Women’s Icebreaker Tournament in late-October in Columbus.
First up in the newly revealed contests is an away series against St. Lawrence (Oct. 4-5). This will be the third weekend of play for the Buckeyes in 2024-25, after playing Minnesota Duluth and Bemidji State to start the calendar off in late-September. Puck drop for the first game of the series is set for 6 p.m. in Canton, New York, while the second contest is slated for 3 p.m. Saturday. The Skating Saints will present a tough opponent as they made the national quarterfinals in 2023-24 before eventually falling to Wisconsin, 4-0.
A home contest against Mercyhurst is set for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22. The game is sandwiched between an away series against St. Cloud State and a tournament at home a few days later. The Buckeyes will later return the favor for a game against Mercyhurst scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, in Erie, Pennsylvania.
This season, Ohio State will also be hosting the 2024 Women’s Icebreaker Tournament, which will take place at the OhioHealth Ice Haus on Oct. 25-26. The Buckeyes will take on Stonehill in the semifinals at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 25, while Cornell and Penn State will face off in the earlier game at 3:30 p.m. The eventual championship game will take place at 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 26, and there will be a third-place game earlier that day at 1 p.m.
Penn State, Cornell, and Stonehill all made the NCAA Tournament in 2023-24, so it should be a competitive event with teams from four different conferences (AHA, ECAC, NEWHA, WCHA).
