LINCOLN – The Nebraska women’s basketball program’s connection with Olivia Hamlin began at a club tournament in Virginia this spring.
Announcing her commitment to Nebraska on Monday, the 5-foot-9 guard from St. George, Utah, is set to join the Huskers after her senior season.
Nebraska assistant coach Jessica Keller spotted Hamlin’s talent at the tournament and recommended her to the rest of the coaching staff.
“That was the tournament I performed well in and they have been following me ever since,” Hamlin stated.
During her junior year at Snow Canyon High School, Hamlin averaged approximately 27 points and four steals per game in the state’s third-largest classification, with a career-high game of 35 points.
Her college recruitment gained momentum this spring, leading to Nebraska inviting her to visit Lincoln and extending a scholarship offer.
“I’ve always aspired to play at a prestigious school against top competition,” Hamlin shared. “That was one of my childhood goals.”
Among the five schools in her final considerations were Clemson, UNLV, BYU, and Virginia Tech.
After her visit to Nebraska, Hamlin narrowed down her college options because she felt it was the right fit for her.
“The coaches at Nebraska, I felt like they were the ones who could guide me,” Hamlin explained. “I could sense their commitment towards me. And the girls on the team were so welcoming — I felt like I belonged with them.”
